PassAlong Networks Announces Digital Media Monitoring Technology for Ad-supported Models
Tracking, Monetizing Digital Media Across Connected Devices Essential for Ad-supported Businesses
Franklin, Tenn. — April 14, 2008 — Media distribution developer PassAlong Networks™ today launched its consumer electronics (CE) Media Tracker™, a patent-pending tracking technology that takes a multi-platform, multi-format, non-DRM approach to monitoring digital media being used or shared on devices. This technology is essential for emerging ad-supported digital media business models, music discovery engines and advertising systems trying to better pinpoint and monetize advertisement placement.
"Our goal is to track digital media across connected CE devices the way Nielsen has tracked television viewership and BigChampagne has tracked P2P activity," said Dave Jaworski, co-founder and CEO of PassAlong Networks. "As more ad-supported digital media models emerge, the need for better media tracking and ad-targeting across a spectrum of CE devices is needed. We are aiming to fill that void."
The Media Tracker services are part of PassAlong's Connected Consumer™ initiative which aims to provide consumers with digital media anywhere, anytime and on any device. Applications include in-car downloads, delivery to Wi-Fi devices, device-to-device transfer of digital media and other aspects of the company's content delivery architecture. Tracking media usage across this CE-based digital ecosystem is crucial for both content owners and advertisers.
"The next generation of digital media business models requires interoperability and easy transfer of data," said analyst Ben Bajarin of Creative Strategies. "Artists and distribution partners require a systematic way of tracking and monetizing that activity throughout the digital ecosystem. The consumers of the future are going to expect all of this."
PassAlong Networks will soon announce several of its technology partners in this effort. Some partners are solving problems at the silicon level, others at the middleware level and still others at the user-interface level.
